M1912 in museum.jpg

M1912/39 12cm Howitzer from Switzerland (de-milled)

Prior to WWI, Krupp in Germany made

86 of the M1912 Howitzers for Switzerland between 1912 and 1914.

The start of WWI in 1914 may account for production ending in that year.

The Howitzer on display is SN 63 and was made in 1913.

With war again imminent in the late 1930s, the Swiss updated the cannons with a muzzle brake, pneumatic tires along with other improvements and designated it the M1912/39.

For unknown reasons, the original wood wheels were kept on this one.
Only a few of these cannons still exist.

We acquired this cannon in Switzerland.

Note the Alps in the background

of the photo.
